The Reds, Pinks, & Purples

Prolific singer songwriter and concerned social commentator Glenn Donaldson is the central pivot of The Reds, Pinks and Purples. A band that effortlessly captures the essence of indie rock’s golden era. With a sound that echoes the equally prolific and fellow British-Invasion-disciples Guided by Voices, they weave a tapestry of melodies that are both nostalgic and refreshingly original. Imagine the raw, lo-fi charm of GBV meeting the atmospheric melancholy of The Cure, all while channelling the storytelling of The Go-Betweens.

Figure Eight

figure eight is an alternative rock band from Oakland, CA that initially began in 2020 as an experimental noise duo between Nash Rood and Abby Goeser, utilizing only a distorted synthesizer and an acoustic drum kit. Several members came in and out as the band expanded its sound until landing on the current lineup, which adds Nicholas Coleman (of ) on bass and Nicky Esparza (of ) on drums.

2024’s self-titled EP (CHERUB DREAM RECORDS) was recorded live to tape at San Francisco’s Different Fur Studios. This 4 song EP is a blast of cacophonous noise-pop by way of crushing post hardcore. The guitars are punishing, drums are frantic, and the low end keeps it all tethered to the ground while the vocals soar. Thematically, figure eight explores presence, devotion, and tapping into ancestral memory.

2023’s ‘you cry for eternity’ EP and the debut 2022 cassette, ‘drown,’ feel like rediscovered 4-track recordings from a long lost band from the 1990’s–something that emerged from the haze of the underground. ‘S/T’, however, feels bold, bright, and lively, showcasing the band as a confident group emerging from the eclectic Bay Area punk scene.
