Movies in the Richmond: 4 Star History and More
 
On January 29, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., local historian Woody LaBounty will appear at the 4 Star Theater to give an illustrated talk on Richmond District movie theater history.
 
Using historical photos, programs, and ads, the virtual tour will visit the long-gone Palm nickelodeon at 6th and Clement, the blockbuster-hosting Coronet on Geary Boulevard, the Egyptian-themed Alexandria, the beloved Balboa, and the newly reopened 4 Star theater, which began business as the La Bonita in 1913.
 
LaBounty is a researcher, writer, and co-founder of the Western Neighborhoods Project (outsidelands.org), a 23-year-old nonprofit focused on the history of western San Francisco.
