Scorsese Shorts: Italianamerican and American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince (104 Minutes)
Playing as a part of Scorsese: More Than a Gangster
The 4-Star will be playing two short documentaries by Martin Scorsese back to back: Italianamerican and American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince. These excellent early shorts highlight Scorsese’s skills as a documentary filmmaker that would come in handy for numerous other projects throughout his career.
Italianamerican focuses on Scorsese’s parents, Catherine and Charles, over the course of a family dinner where Catherine shares her meatball recipe. The couple discuss their experiences as children of Italian immigrants growing up in New York, as well as their experiences with love, family, and religion.
American Boy follows Scorsese’s friend Steven Prince (known for playing the arms dealer in Taxi Driver) as talks with his close friends about the various crazy experiences of his life. We learn about his time as a road manager for Neil Diamond, his past addiction to heroin, and the incidents he’s gotten into that sometimes become deadly for him or those around him.
Cast: Catherine Scorsese, Charles Scorsese, Martin Scorsese, Steven Prince, and George Memmoli
Playing back to back with Raging Bull at 7:30 PM. Catch both for $20.
